LAND studio (Landscape, Art, Neighborhoods, Development) is a non-profit organization in Cleveland, Ohio focused on enhancing public spaces. Our mission is to create places and connect people through public art, sustainable building and design, collaborative planning, and dynamic programming. We envision our city as one filled with vibrant, textured places that unite, inspire, and enrich its people. This blog is a space for us to keep track of innovative projects that inspire us. //

The BikeBox is a covered bike rack/bike corral concept using a retrofitted shipping container. This soon-to-be-installed bike storage facility will be placed in a street parking space in Cleveland’s West 25th street neighborhood. See our website for more details on this project.

Open International Design Competition for Transforming Cities with Innovation (via ONE Prize 2012: BLIGHT TO MIGHT)

The competition is now closed to submissions—we eagerly await the winner (announced this coming September)! View the full competition description here. And be sure to check out their previous themed design challenges: 2010 and 2011. One Prize is, according to their website, “an annual design and science award to promote green design in cities” and is organized by Terreform, a New York City-based non-profit self-described as an “ecological design group for urban infrastructure, building, planning, and art” that runs many programs including OneLab (a research and education initiative).

Matchmaking Abandoned Properties With Ideas for Reuse

The Atlantic Cities magazine highlights a new website, [Im]possible Living, which aims to connect abandoned properties with the ideas and capacities for transforming them back into usable spaces. The site was started by Daniela Galvani and Andrea Sesta, and though it currently logs mostly properties in Italy, the founders hope it will become a global resource for reuse projects.
